WHAT ARE DILEMMA TALES?
Dilemma Tales are a specific set of traditional stories from West Africa & India. These stories come with a dilemma that is thrown to the audience to solve. With no easy answers, neither right nor wrong, the listener has to respond using one’s own sense of values, beliefs & judgement.
DO CHILDREN FACE DILEMMAS?
Dilemmas are an outcome of life! There is no one who doesn’t face a dilemma or a moment when taking a decision becomes difficult.
Some dilemmas are easy to solve. Some others need a careful evaluation of the various pros & cons in a given moment.
WHAT ARE THE DILEMMAS THAT CHILDREN FACE?
“Should I be kind or mean to a friend?”
“Do I play or study? How much of each can I do?”
“Do I tell my teacher that I didn’t understand a topic? Or not?”
“Do I fake a headache or a stomach ache?”
HOW CAN STORYTELLING HELP CHILDREN ADDRESS THEIR DILEMMAS?
Listening to Stories activates Higher Order Thinking Skills in Children (& adults).
A story triggers Problem Solving, Logical Reasoning, Analytical & Creative Thinking.
A Story helps them understand & address emotions in a safe space.
